How AFP fought for the Working Families Tax Cuts — and never stopped

Historic policy victories are built through months of grassroots action and advocacy.

One year ago, Americans for Prosperity helped secure one of the most consequential economic victories in recent history: the enactment of the Working Families Tax Cuts.

From building grassroots support to celebrating lawmakers who stood with taxpayers and highlighting the law’s benefits, AFP remained committed long before — and long after — the bill reached the president’s desk.

Here’s a look back at how AFP fought to make that victory possible — and how we continued making the case for the Working Families Tax Cuts long after the bill became law.

AFP HELPED MAKE THE WORKING FAMILIES TAX CUTS A REALITY

Through AFP’s “Protect Prosperity” campaign, our grassroots army helped stop the largest tax increase in American history while advancing policies that protected working families, unleashed American energy, strengthened border security, and protected Medicaid for the truly vulnerable.

Getting this landmark legislation across the finish line took an unprecedented grassroots effort. AFP activists connected with more than 1 million Americans, knocked on more than 525,000 doors, made more than 500,000 phone calls, hosted more than 800 events across the country, and sent more than 100,000 letters to Congress.

Below you can see a picture of an AFP event at a local meat market in Stangelville, Wisconsin, just east of Green Bay — helping locals understand how strong economic policy, like the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, lowers costs for everyday goods. 

Those efforts were reinforced by more than 333 million digital ad impressions, 15.8 million television views, and more than 1,500 meetings on Capitol Hill, including grassroots events at AFP’s Freedom Embassy with congressional leaders and other key lawmakers.

The impact of AFP’s grassroots army was clear. As Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo said:

“AFP was the biggest ally we had in getting the One Big Beautiful Bill across the finish line.”

Throughout the campaign, AFP documented every step of the legislative process — explaining why extending tax relief mattered and highlighting key milestones on the path to passage.

AFP KEPT FIGHTING AFTER THE BILL BECAME LAW

Passage was never the finish line.

After the Working Families Tax Cuts became law, AFP continued working in communities across the country to ensure Americans knew where their elected officials stood. Our grassroots army knocked on nearly 2.5 million doors, thanking lawmakers who voted to protect tax relief for working families and holding accountable those who opposed the legislation.

From district events and grassroots campaigns to recognizing lawmakers who championed the bill and educating Americans about how the Working Families Tax Cuts are strengthening our economy, AFP remained committed to celebrating leaders who stood with taxpayers while encouraging accountability from those who did not.
