Big wins, big week: AFP drives major tax and spending bill through Congress

Americans can celebrate more than America’s 249th birthday on July Fourth.

Congress delivered by approving the One Big Beautiful Bill — a transformational victory that provides historic tax relief for American workers, makes the largest investment in border security in a generation, reins in Washington’s waste, unleashes American energy abundance, and puts America back on a path to prosperity.

The Senate kicked things off on July 1, passing the reconciliation package 51-50 after Vice President JD Vance cast the tiebreaking vote. The House followed quickly, concurring with the Senate’s changes and sending the bill to President Trump’s desk — just in time to meet the ambitious July 4 deadline he’d set earlier in the year.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune shepherded the bill through a sharply divided Senate, and House Speaker Mike Johnson kept House Republicans united to secure final passage.

But none of it would have been possible without Americans for Prosperity’s Protect Prosperity campaign and its unmatched grassroots army — mobilizing constituents, building momentum, and delivering a win for taxpayers nationwide.

Through this initiative, AFP:

• Led more than 750 events and rallies across the country with dozens of lawmakers.

• Hosted conversations with key congressional leaders, including Speaker Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClain, which you can watch below.

• Launched a targeted digital ad blitz to educate millions of Americans in key states and districts about the importance of making the 2017 tax cuts permanent, part of a $20 million nationwide initiative — more than any other organization. You can watch one of AFP’s latest ads below.

• Held more than 1,500 meetings with key congressional leaders, including 135 meetings on Capitol Hill in a single day in June to support pro-growth tax reform. You’ll see AFP’s teams meeting with Leader Thune (left) and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (right). 

The One Big Beautiful Bill will improve the lives of every American.

This historic piece of legislation will help chart a new course toward economic freedom and unlock a massive economic boom that helps every American achieve their version of the American Dream by:

• Permanently extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act
• Cutting taxes for working Americans and small businesses
• Reducing wasteful spending
• Providing historic funding for border security
• Ensuring that America remains a leader in energy production

Without Congress’ swift action and the support of grassroots activists like you, Americans faced the biggest tax hike in American history.

In fact, if the cuts expired, 6 in 10 Americans would have paid more — including those who can afford it least. A single parent with three kids making $55,000, for instance, would owe $1,889 more per year.

Second, the reconciliation bill would put the federal government on a sounder fiscal footing by cutting more than $1.6 trillion in spending. The reconciliation bill also reforms Medicaid to improve outcomes, protect access to quality care, and restore the program’s integrity.

The One Big Beautiful Bill takes critical steps to restore security at our borders. It invests billions to complete construction of President Trump’s border wall and funds new Border Patrol agents, customs officials, and other infrastructure. A secure border protects Americans and provides a safer, clearer immigration system.

Finally, the legislation would unleash a new era of American energy development by shortening the time to begin construction of key infrastructure projects.
